Most marketing professionals get a degree and work their way up in the corporate world. My story’s a little more black sheep than that.
I dropped out of college after six months and jumped straight into the workforce. After a handful of jobs where I was either fired for speaking up or my good work would countlessly go unoticed, I realized I wasn’t meant to climb someone else’s ladder—I was meant to build my own.
In my early-twenties, I started a company in the automotive aftermarket industry with about $1,500 to my name and a laptop. I taught myself how to build websites, design logos, run ads, close deals, and all the elements of running a small business. There were plenty of nights fueled by Top Ramen, but I kept going. Over time, that small idea grew into an internationally recognized brand that generated $49 million in sales and even worked with a few celebrities and high-profile professional athletes along the way.
When COVID supply chain issues made manufacturing nearly impossible, sadly I was forced to walk away in 2023. But I didn’t walk away empty-handed. I left with a decades of experience in what really drives business growth—marketing, positioning, and the ability to outthink and outwork competitors who had ten times my budget.
From a young age, I wanted to be a professional athlete. I was fascinated by car racing, but we didn’t have the finances to make it happen. So, I played ball sports and held two jobs at the age of eight—delivering newspapers and working at a local go-kart track—just to prove to my dad that I had the commitment to race. Every month, I reminded him this was what I wanted to do. At age ten, he finally bought me my first go-kart. I was terrible at first and even crashed into a haybale my very first race—but I never gave up.
What started as a dream turned into a decade-long career. From ages 10 to 21, I became one of the most decorated kart racers in North America, earning 23 championships, over 300 awards, and multiple national titles.
After stepping away from racing, I poured that same drive into business. But life had other challenges waiting. I developed a mysterious illness that went misdiagnosed by over a dozen doctors for more than a decade. Half of them told me it was all in my head, but deep down, I knew something was wrong. Eventually, I discovered I was battling Lyme disease, mold exposure, BPA poisoning, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome—all while running and growing my company. There were days I could barely stand, but giving up wasn’t an option. I learned to manage my health, rebuild my strength, and keep moving forward no matter what.
Today, I’m undergoing long-term treatment through functional medicine while rebuilding my business career in digital marketing and consulting.
